Jerome Coopersmith

Adjunct Professor

BruceA native New Yorker, Coopersmith served in the U.S, Army for two years
before beginning a career in the early days of television.  His TV credits
include historical drama, plays based on contemporary events, sci-fi, action
adventure, and the adaptation of classical literature for TV.
 
In addition, he has written original dramas for the television, and plays for
the legitimate stage. He received the Robert E. Sherwood Award for his TV play “I Was Accused” which told the story of  George Voskovec the Czech actor who escaped from his country during World War II , and then was imprisoned in America during the days of the McCarthy witch hunt.
 
Coopersmith’s plays for the legitimate stage include “Baker Street” a musical adaptation of the Sherlock Holmes saga by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, “The Diary of Adam and Eve” an adaptation of the biblical story by Mark Twain, and “The Mystery of Anna O”  a play he wrote with Lucy Freeman about the first person in the world ever to be psychoanalyzed.  
 
His play “Eleanor” was a biographical play about the early life of Eleanor Roosevelt when she worked as a volunteer teacher in a New York Settlement House.
 
Coopersmith’s teaching career began at Hunter College in New York, and now continues at Brooklyn College in the borough where he spent a good part of his childhood.

Eugene M. Cunningham

Adjunct Associate Professor

youngGene Cunningham is a Magna Cum Laude graduate of St. John’s University, with a B.S. in Communication Arts.  He was awarded the University’s “Silver Key” for academic achievement.  He also holds a M.A. in Media Studies from Queens College.

 Gene started his business career in Media in 1977 at Blair Television, where he spent over 21 years in the Research and Marketing arena. In 1989, he was promoted to the position of Vice President of Research and Marketing.   He also spent 3 ½ years at Blair’s sister company, Petry Television, before moving to FOX Stations Sales as Vice President of Research in June 2001. While at Petry, Gene was the recipient of the “Circle of Excellence Award” for outstanding service. He has been an Adjunct Associate Professor in the Graduate Television and Radio department of Brooklyn College for nearly 25 years and is also and Adjunct Assistant Professor in New York Institute of Technology’s Communications Graduate dept. for the past 5 years. He is the current Chairman of NYIT’s ASC Advisory Board. 

From 1986-1989 he was Chairman of the Association of Independent Television’s
Research Advisory Committee and from 1999-2001 he was Co-Chair of the Television Bureau of Advertising Association’s (TVB) NSAC Research Committee. He is still an active committee member for TVB. He is also a former member of Nielsen’s Policy and Guidelines Committee.

Gene resides in Long Island with his wife and two children.

Young Cheong

Education Coordinator for New Media and Digital Technology

M.F.A. Television Production, Brooklyn College 2000

Editor, videographer, producer, director, lighting designer, education coordinator for New Media and Digital technology (Higher Education Associate) and adjunct assistant professor.

Unique design and creative production are prominent in his work. His research interests lies in the area of diversity and social impact.   As a natural born South Korean he is still involved with his native land and is currently associated with the SBS (Seoul Broadcasting System) and has produced segments in the U.S. for the show, "Global VJ Express", which is aired nationally in South Korea.  

Upon completion of his Master of Fine Arts in Television Production degree from the department of Television and Radio at Brooklyn College he was hired as a post-production supervisor.  His current position as an education coordinator for new media and digital technology, along with web development enhances his other responsibilities as the chief tape librarian and adjunct assistant professorship. 

Mr. Cheong is an Apple Certified Trainer for Final Cut Pro.  His expertise in editing is one of many valuable assets he possesses.  His approach to the skill of editing has benefited both undergraduate and graduate students attending Brooklyn College, especially the majors in Television and Radio, as well as film, music and theatre majors.  His persona is such that students are both well trained and comfortable under his tutelage.  Young Cheong is regarded as an exceptional editor and is a consummate professional in all his endeavors. 

In addition to all of his teaching and training skills, Mr. Cheong is an award-winning producer and editor. Some of his most noted praise has come from editing and producing videos such as, CUNY's Human Resources' introductory video for new staff members; trailer and TV commercial for the N.Y. Korean Film Festival. Forthe 48 hour film Festival in New York he produced and directed, First Day, which won awards for Best Actor, Best Lighting and Best Editing.  His editing work on the acclaimed television series, Women in Theatre II, broadcast on CUNY-TV, which was produced by the League of Professional Theatre women and hosted by Newsday's Theatre critic, Linda Winer was well accepted, and a great success.  His promotional work in editing included, Best of Brooklyn in 2003 and 2004 promoting the City University of New York and the documentary, From Vision to Legacy in 2002 was a brief history of the Brooklyn College Library.  He produced, directed and edited, Life Between Junk and Treasure, which was featured on the CUNY-TV cable channel under BC Presents. 

Mr. Cheong's creative talents are shown in his latest short drama, The Smoking Woman.  He intends to enter it into both national and international film festivals in the near future. 

His collaborations include, Sung HeeAn's experimental film, Fan and Me (Cannes Critics Week, Cannes, 2001), Min Choi's, Power of Dung, (Green Film festival, 2005), and Minki Park's, American Penquin Project (Sundance film festival online, 2006). 

Along with his long list of accomplishments Mr. Cheong has attended seminars and participated in the United Nations Television Forum, and the HPA Professional Technology conference for the past several years.  His most recent honor was as a recipient of a CUNY-wide Diversity Grant to research and produce a documentary on the development of Asian study at Brooklyn College. 

Mr. Cheong currently teaches both undergraduate and graduate students in video post production and theory and field television production through the department of Television and Radio. He continues to coordinate, direct and edit various productions at Brooklyn College and the community at large.  He is sort after for his creativity, professional judgment in all digital media projects, and his exceptional skills in media editing.
